How to Start Prioritzing Your Passions (Even with NO Time)

Too often, I hear “I don’t have time to do that.” And that may very well be true, but it’s time to find time. Between work, families, having a social life, and many other responsibilities, it can be hard to prioritize your passions (or hobbies) in life. Here’s the truth…you don’t need endless hours of free time to chase your dreams or do the things you love.

Here’s how you can start making space for your passions, even on the busiest weeks.

Just 10 minutes a day

You don’t have to carve out hours and hours of time – you just need 10 minutes. I know it feels like such a little amount of time but it’s so worth it. So pick one passion or hobby over the next 3 months and spend at least 10 minutes nurturing it. Usually, this ends in you finding pockets of time throughout the day to nurture this passion.

Replace Distraction with a Passion

The time is usually there, but sometimes distractions get in the way. In the age of social media, it’s very easy to get distracted. Scrolling is my number one opp, and I know that’s what hinders me on most days. If you’re a chronic scroller like me or you get caught up in playing Candy Crush, try swapping 15 minutes for your hobby/passion.

Make it a Non-Negotiable

If you don’t schedule the time or write it out on your to-do list, then it will always come last. Make your passion more of a need vs. a want. Our wants inevitably get overlooked. If you wouldn’t cancel on a friend, then make a habit of not cancelling on yourself.

Habit Stack

I love habit stacking, aka multi-tasking. While your tea is steeping, maybe you should journal or draw up a sketch. In between sets at the gym, write in your notes app how you’re going to spend 10 minutes painting, writing, etc.

Don’t Forget to Celebrate

Every single little win counts. If I get a blog post written, that’s a win. If I gesso my canvas, that’s a win. These are my snowballs, and eventually they grow into a cute little snowman. Any bit of momentum is a big deal in my book.

You don’t need more hours in the day; you need to be more intentional. I know with all the things on your to-do list that it seems annoying and maybe a little judgmental, but trust me, there are pockets of time hidden in your day. Your passions and hobbies deserve space, even if it’s only 10 minutes a day.

What passions/hobbies are you giving 10 minutes a day to this week? Let me know in the comments.
