Autumn Non-Negotiables: 5 Rituals to Stay Focused on Your Dreams

Now is truly the time to lock in and get ready for the following season. Some people call this the Winter Arc, where you get all your goals accomplished before the new year. In my opinion, it’s time to get everything automated so you don’t have to do much during the Winter. After all, everything else hibernates during the Winter season.

During the fall time, there are so many distractions – pumpkin spice, holidays, lots of activities, etc. It’s super easy to lose the momentum that you may have had in the summertime. So before that seasonal depression hits like a ton of bricks, here are 5 rituals I’m not skipping this Autumn to stay aligned with my dream life.

Morning Rituals

Having a morning routine is always going to set the tone for the rest of the day. Waking up and scrolling is something I do often, but I need to stop, like NOW. There’s so much negativity on the Internet, and it really does change my mood in the mornings. I’m sure it sets the mood for others as well. This doesn’t mean jump up out of bed and do an intense workout. But maybe a little journaling or having some gratitude exercises. Any simple non-phone-related activity can start in the mornings.

10 Minutes of Passion

No, not that kind of passion, but I’m not judging. We just don’t spend enough time following our passions. If your passion or even hobby is building Lego sets, then do it for at least 10 minutes every day. I don’t care if you feel like you don’t have enough time…find time. Usually, what ends up happening is you’ll find pockets of time throughout the day dedicated to your passion(s). Don’t skip a day of this if you can help it. You’ll be so happy in the long run.

Weekly Resets

I’ll be honest, I don’t reflect or reset enough. The only thing that gets reset around here is my laundry and sometimes my hair. But taking 10-20 minutes every Sunday to reflect and plan out the next week just might change things. Reflecting on what you did over the week gives you a good glimpse into your accomplishments. So many things go unnoticed, and you feel like you didn’t do anything. The whole time, you actually completed two full-time jobs without realizing it. We underestimate the things we get done and then sulk about it for hours, sometimes days. Start reflecting at the end of the week, I promise you’re not a victim.

Get Moving

Did I hear a collective groan in the distance? Seriously, get moving. I really do hate to sound like a broken record, but the best thing you can do for yourself is to work out. It doesn’t need to be intense or hardcore, but it does need to happen. I can’t tell you how much better I feel when I’m not working in my bed. They say sitting is the new crack, or something like that. So, don’t sit so much and just get moving, or at the very least, stand up.

Stop the Scrolling

This is my number 1 worst habit, and it’s a hard one to break. It’s gotten to a point where TikTok is background noise, and that is awful. I’m slowly getting in the habit of when I feel like scrolling, I’ll start writing or crocheting – my hobbies. A little scrolling here and there is one thing, but to spend an hour or more doing it is a problem. A big one.

These are the 5 rituals that will set you up for success during the Fall and Winter time. It’s time to lock in on your routines and systems and get ready for the cold weather. Bundle up, stay focused, and get work! You’ll thank me later.
