Slowing Down Helped Me Fall in Love with Creating Art Again

The reason I started BlackCandyCo was to create art, stickers really. I had always planned on moving to art prints but never quite made it there.

Artist are so hard on themselves and I’m not excluded at all. I’d list an art print and nobody seemed interested so I’d unlist it. I never really promoted it and would just sit on it. I’d keep releasing new stickers because they were quick and easy to make. I didn’t even think about if they would sell.

I’ll be honest, I was following others. I’d see people put out their simple art (no shade) and sell it out immediately, so I followed suit. Not only did this not work for me, I hated just making stickers after a while. So, I stepped away from BlackCandyCo. A large step away.

Most stickers took a few hours to make while a digital art print would take days to weeks to draw. I’ve even moved on to canvas art. Sometimes that can take a few hours but sometimes a few months.

Clearly I have a theme. I love slow processes and slow growth. I live in the calm. Blogging is slow. Gardening is slow. Sourdough is slow.

All I can think about this time of year is creating art. Giving away art and even selling art. Art is always on my mind.

As soon as I finish a piece, I shrink myself and don’t put it out there. The imposter syndrome always wins. But this time, I want to put myself…my art out there. I’m pushing myself to share and I don’t care if nobody or everybody is watching.
